Dicynodonts
Koonya, east of Hobart on the Tasman Peninsular is host to a late-Permian/Early Triassic fossil assemblage that includes the remains of one or more Dicynodonts, an extinct group of plant-eating animals often described as ‘mammal-like’ reptiles. Globally, Dicynodonts survived the Permian extinction and thrived throughout the Triassic. The Koonya Dicynodont is estimated to have been an animal that was between 1 – 1.5m long.
