Cycads

Cycads and cycad-like plants (Bennettitales) are found in Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous fossil assemblages in and near Tasmania.  These palm-like plants grow distinctive cones as part of their reproductive cycle. Bennettitales are now extinct but the descendants of cycads may still be found alive today.
